Ways of Earth / A föld útjai

We enjoy the earth and soil that cover the planet as a matter of course every day. However, once we look down and start digging deep in, we find a diverse world that cannot be simply categorized as soil. “Ways of Earth” is a collaborative project between Hungarian and Gifu-based artists, sharing a delicate sensitivity toward the earth, soil, and fundamentals of landscapes.
This collaborative project was initiated in 2022 by Hungarian ceramic artist Néma Júlia, and in 2023, Gifu-based ceramic artists Hioki Tetsuya and Aso Rando joined. The exchange took place in Japan’s Mino-Tono region, known for its rich ceramic culture, and Hungary’s Balaton Uplands area, renowned as a geological wonderland for its diverse geological formations. During the exchange, the artists walked through each other’s regions, observed, touched, and shared time together, deepening their awareness of the rich diversity within the soils and rocks of the same planet and reflecting on their abundant individuality.
The exhibition, a touring show between Hungary and Japan, will showcase the materials and sensations the artists discovered during their journeys, expressed through their individual artistic methods. Through their artworks and collaborative installations, the artists will present the fruits of this creative exchange.
